Melissa Savage- Republik Nightclub Bartender

Interview By: Amanda Huynh
Feeling thirsty? You will once you see who your bartender is. Melissa Savage is one of Republik Night Club’s hottest bartenders. Her luscious brown hair, bright smile and sultry look can make any man weak at the knees, but so can the drinks she mixes. Hailing from Lakeville, New Brunswick, she moved to Toronto after finishing high school in 1998. Beware though, her small town roots are often hidden by her big-city personality.
Q: How did you get into bartending?
A: I started bartending at a hole in the wall place called "The Garage Paradise". It was an old garage renovated into a little bar right on the south west corner of Queen and Simcoe. There's a Tim Hortons there now, it was a great, little place.
Q: When did you start bartending at Republik?
A: I started bartending at Republik in November 2005.
Q: What is the best part of your job?
A: The best part of my job is the people I work with. Sounds cliché, but some of my good friends work there and it makes coming to work so much more fun. Nothing's worse than working with people you can't stand.
Q: What’s your biggest pet peeve about clubbers?
A: My biggest pet peeve about clubbers is the tipping part. A $3 tip on an $80 round is NOT a tip- that covers my tip-out. In a club, a dollar a drink is a tip. More than a dollar a drink is good. Tip well and I'll remember you when you come around again and you'll get your drinks really quick. Scratch my back, I scratch your's. Don't tip and I'll remember you as well.
Q: Describe the sexiest outfit you’ve ever worn to work
A: The sexiest outfit? All of them. lol. I wore a black mesh body suit with a black thong and black bra and thigh high hooker boots for a fetish party once. That was probably the most risqué.
Having worked a Grey Cup promotion with Melissa in November, it is easy to see why people think beautiful women can sell just about anything.

Q: What do you prefer bartending or doing promotional appearances?
A: Both are good and both have things I get annoyed with. But I'm glad I have both, to split my energies a bit.
Q: I heard through the grape vine that you’ve been on Entertainment Tonight Canada, could you tell me what it was for?
A: I did a segment for ET Canada on handbags for the season. We shot at Holts on Bloor St. The price tags on some of these bags were insane.
Q: Who’s the coolest person you’ve ever served or met on a promo?
A: I met Vin Diesel on a promo once. Vince Neil, Lennox Lewis, different porn stars. Jesse Jane is really sweet.
Q: What would a guy have to do to get your attention at a club? Has anyone ever succeeded in doing this?
A: A big tip will always get my attention. lol. One guy made napkin roses every time he bought a beer. My back bar was covered in these napkin roses at the end of the night! Another guy bought an entire bouquet of the flowers the peddlers sell. That was sweet.
Q: What’s your favourite cocktail?
A: My drink of the moment is probably Jack and Coke.
Q: Jack (Daniels) or Jose (Cuervo)- who makes a better friend?
A: Jack and I have a love/ hate relationship. Right now, we're cool. lol.
I hope you had an amazing time on your recent trip to Australia. I’m sure your regulars missed you dearly, but now you’re back and mixing up a storm. Maybe next time I see you, you can introduce to me that friend of yours- Jack, that is.
